The Old House 1147

Fantastic all round! Our second visit & stay to this amazing place, and cant wait for our next. The restaurant and food was absolutly stunning, and the staff service was perfect. Thank you to all the team for making our short break and visit here a lovely experience.

Stayed at Troed-Y-Rhiew for 2 nights. Really lovely room with a lovely bath. Breakfast very nice and lovely friendly staff. It really was a minute from Troed-Y-Rhiw to The Old House for breakfast. I didn't get chance to eat in the restaurant this time, but as I'll be going back when visiting work, I'll definitely try the food smelled delicious. Wonderful views all around and situated in a quiet village. I took one star away because I found the bed was far too hard for me so I didn't get the best night's rest. Otherwise... fabulous.

Absolutely fantastic meal at The Old House, Maesteg. From start to finish everything was spot on. The food was beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Portions were generous and presentation was excellent. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, Ffion our waitress was friendly and attentive advising us on various menu options. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had locally, can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

A large group of visited for my daughter's birthday it was so easy to book and for a large group, we were greeted by pleasant helpful staff The service was fantastic. The venue is so beautiful and spacious with lovely views. I love it !!!! The food was incredible !!!!! Honestly the best I have ever tasted, from presentation,taste,portion size (huge) and price everything was just amazing. I highly recommend.

Had a wonderful evening spent in the Old House having dinner then staying in the Lodge. Dinner was outstanding - loved the January specials and the Butchers Block was absolutely delicious! Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, then after dinner we went to our accommodation which was a few minutes away. The Old House offers a shuttle to get there from the restaurant which is perfect! My friend and I were blown away by the lodge, it was beautiful! So spacious and it had everything we wanted. We loved the wood fire and the rooms were gorgeous. It was the perfect staycation! Couldn’t recommend enough, we had the most amazing time.

Excellent night away with my fiancé. Excellent, warm room. Great staff in the bar and restaurant. The food was excellent in the evening and a lovely breakfast. We will definitely be back

Just had food with friends for Christmas treat here, so can't comment on rooms. Welcomed lovely by gentleman and as it was Monday midday seemed quiet. Had a lovely table by a window. Scenery is lovely here. Great table service by lovely waitress. There was 4 of us, so friends had the sharing camerbert platter, looked amazing, 2 hot dishes of cheese with 3 olive bread slices each, butter, cranberry and salad with olives. I had the sticky soy sweet belly pork which was amazing. Sorry no photos of these but did get photos of mains and desserts, which was 2 x beef Wellington which was absolutely amazing, that came with chips, a few veg and a lovely gravy, there was a fillet steak which normally comes with chips, wife asked for chips to be replaced with salad instead, they surprised us here and would not do that, when questioned waitress about why, as surely removing a portion of chips would be similar in cost to a salad, we were told they don't do it, but my wife could have veg instead which she did. When we asked later why we weren't offered the salad as the menu does have it, we were told we would have had to pay extra, I thought very strict menus were a thing of the past and customers usually get what they want, but I guess some old fashioned places ran by chefs don't like doing this. The 4 meal was a lovely seafood linguine. Our ladies had a lovely bottle of white wine and we had Felinfoel double dragon and ginger pop as they have no low alcohol gin which my friend would have had. Desserts, wow, friends had pavlova and I had sticky toffee pudding, both amazing. Will go again as its a beautifully place and great service apart from not having alcohol free Gun and not swapping chips for salad which is so rare these days. Thanks for a very fine dining experience, food was exceptional.

A perfect Sunday lunch. Fantastic service and very friendly staff. The food was gorgeous. One of our party had the vegetarian sunday lunch and said it was the best veggie lunch they'd ever had. Excellent value and would highly recommend
